This was a last minute booking for a surprise birthday outing and what a find. Forget your chain hotels with corporate images and style that you could find in any hotel in any country, I loved this place. Its a work in progress and its not perfect but it is fun, quirky, flawed, comfortable and frankly entertaining. Its a grade II listed building, it comes with built in quirks but the lady owner (and her two little Frenchies, who live out of the way) is doing the place up in her own style which as I said earlier is quirky and entertaining. I frequently found myself doing double takes at stuff in the house as all was not as it seemed and I just loved it. Plenty of great parking, the breakfasts are amazing, cereals etc for you to help ourself to, you can order any combination of hot fresh stuff and to your taste from a full breakfast to porridge. Its nicely cooked, well presented and served with a cheerful welcome. 5 minutes walk on a flat straight road to the beach, 5 minutes walk in the opposite direction to camp site that offers a range of food on a night. Great location for Saltburn, Whitby, Runswick etc. If you are looking for somewhere clean, tidy, safe and warm with good food to stay, this is the place, the quirks were an added benefit in my mind which really tickled my fancy!

If you’re looking for an exceptional bed and breakfast stay by the beautiful North Yorkshire coast, then look no further. An 18th Century Manor House, Moonfleet has both character and style with excellent accommodation finished to a high standard given the age of the property. In addition to the bedrooms, there’s a well-lit Dining Room for Breakfast - the food is prepared to a very high standard and Helen offers a superb choice of breakfast options - and in the evenings, you can relax by a roaring open fire in a comfortable bar area, with sofas for reading, games and snoozing. Helen’s hospitality is second to none, straightforward in her approach and nothing was too much trouble. The rooms are refreshed every day and there a lots of little touches that make you feel welcome, whether it’s freshly baked muffins to take on your day out - if you can resist that long - or fresh milk to enjoy in your afternoon cup of tea. The location is spot on if you like walking and access to a beautiful beach, with Staithes 4.5 miles walk in one direction and Saltburn 3.5 miles in the other, all along the Cleveland Way. Thank you, Helen, and your daughter, for making us feel so at home and looked after. It’s rare for us to consider staying anywhere for a second time - there’s too much to see in the world - but for Moonfleet, we’d make an exception.

Amazing rooms, absolutely comfortable mattress. Parking a bit iffy. Someone was parked in our space and had park somewhere else.

We stayed at Moonfleet Guest House for two nights for our minimoon. The building is absolutely stunning and decorated in a homely quirky way. Our room was beautiful with a gorgeous copper stand alone bath. The whole place was spotlessly clean, the bed was so comfortable, there was a large smart TV and bubble bath was also provided. The bar area is fantastic with a cosy log fire and a good selection of reasonably priced drinks. Helen was a fantastic host. She ensured that we had everything we needed. The cooked breakfast was second to none, with the added surprise of freshly baked muffins. Thanks for a wonderful stay Helen, we hope to visit again in the near future.

The Moonfleet Guest House is a fantastic find! I stayed with my family for the weekend and Helen was an exceptional host. We received a warm welcome and she was highly attentive throughout our stay. The breakfast was second to none with the personal touch of a homemade chocolate muffin to take away as we were so stuffed! The yogurt, fruit and granola pots were delish and the cooked breakfast was cooked to perfection. The rooms and all communal areas are immaculately clean and the decor and finishing touches are outstanding. I was so impressed by the passion for it all, the quirky ornamental mirrors and unique furniture. The room with the copper bath tub was particularly impressive. We didn’t want to leave! We had such a fun time in the evening using the pool table, the dart board, the table football and the board games by the real open fire. It was such a memorable stay. We went to the beach nearby and it was beautiful. Thank you, Helen. I would highly recommend staying here.

Myself and six of my family stayed at Moonfleet this weekend. We had a really great time. The building is such a wonderful and interesting place. All the rooms are welcoming and make you feel calm and snug. The bar is brilliant with log fire, pool table, darts, fussball table, and lots of great drink choices. The owner is such a warm and wonderful person. She made us all feel completely at home and was so lovely. Breakfast was delicious. The cooked brekky was awesome and the fresh fruit & Greek yogurt was bursting with freshness and flavour. Just down the road is a lovely beach to the north of the jetty and within very easy walking distance. What a great time we had. Thank you for being the perfect host.

Where do I start! A fabulously quirky guesthouse on the East coast with amazing decor and unusually decorated rooms. Our room was very comfortable, the bath was amazing and breakfast in the morning was delightful. In the evening we drove 10 mins to find somewhere nice to eat, which was no trouble at all. The sea is a 5 minute walk away and there are amazing views a very short drive away. The landlady makes amazing muffins, please ensure you try one at breakfast! Overall, a very nice night away!

Fabulous old building, full of features and character. Very unique. Great service. Delicious breakfast. Good attention to detail. Huge soft fluffy towels in the shower room. Nice selection of teas and chocolate in the room. If they had provided evening meals this would have been 5*.

Stayed here although there is absolutely nothing to do. There's no bar. There are no pubs and no shops! The place is like a ghost town! This place needs investment because it has a small beach and someone who's wealthy could start a seaside resort in my opinion. Needs a lot of money thrown at it!

What a find! We spent a night at Moonfleet while walking the Cleveland Way. Helen went out of her way to make us comfortable when we arrived late and soaking wet. The decor is magical, and the room was both quirky and practical with lots of little extras. Skinningrove beach is exceptional and the old industrial town has a pub restaurant with good value meals (Helen texted us the number in advance to ensure we got a table). And breakfast was outstanding with lots and choice and all home cooked. Altogether a hidden gem of a place. We will return
